"The RSETI (Rural Self Employment Training Institute) concept originated from RUDSETI(Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute) started jointly by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Education Trust, Syndicate bank and Canara bank in 1982 with Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade,a legendary personality ,as Chairman. The mission was to face the grave situation of unemployment problem by imparting training in skill development, capacity building, providing all support for a period of two years towards establishment of entrepreneur to unemployed youth at no cost so that they become self employed and also become a contributory factor to the economic growth process.

Considering the success rate with the RUDSETI concept, MORD, GOI, recognized the approach and decided to establish RSETI (Rural Self Employment Training Institute),a replica model of RUDSETI. All the Banks are entrusted with the responsibilities to establish and monitor one RSETI in each district throughout India.

Self employment is one stream that aims to promote entrepreneurship among the unemployed youth, particularly those below the poverty line and hence RSETI plays an important factor for NRLM/SRLM. For establishment of RSETI with all infrastructure like hostel facility etc land allotment by the State machinery/District Authorities/DRDA Project Directors is of great importance towards achievement of mission.
